Online In-Depths

I wrote and produced a couple of Online-In-Depths or “online centerfolds” throughout my time on staff. This first video links to one that was created for my first OID, which was a story about two best friends who ended up graduating as co-valedictorians. It was one of my first major stories, but it was also the first time I interviewed people on camera.

Another OID I produced as an editor was the story package, linked to the left, about a senior’s experience at Culver Summer Schools & Camp. This story told an unusual perspective of family and theater at SHS that many might not have known if it wasn’t for great beat reporting and an “Oh no you di’nt” from one of my reporters.

Social Media Initiatives

This year, we knew that digital readership had to be better than ever, considering the fact that most students were home a majority of the school week, and we could be sent home at any minute. To be sure that we would still gain digital traction, the social media manager and I came up with a follower competition to ensure that as many people as possible were following The Journal on social media. And, we have started to use other social networks like Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook to get a more diverse audience to our website.
